In a normal world when you owe a creditor money, you might get hassled with phone calls, you might get served with court papers, you might get sent to a collection agency or you might have your wages garnished. Our government no longer operates in a normal world, however, and now they send full scale S.W.A.T teams crashing through the front door over unpaid student loans.
The U.S. Department of Education recently flexed its muscles against an American citizen by blasting through the front door with a S.W.A.T. team, pulling a father and his children out into a patrol car where they sat for hours on end waiting to find out why they had been dragged through this nightmare.
Come to find out the guy’s wife had defaulted on student loans and the police force busted into the house looking for her. You read that right, the S.W.A.T. team blasted through the front door, seeking a woman who owed money on student loans.

STOCKTON, CA - Kenneth Wright does not have a criminal record and he had no reason to believe a S.W.A.T team would be breaking down his door at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
“I look out of my window and I see 15 police officers,” Wright said.
Wright came downstairs in his boxer shorts as a S.W.A.T team barged through his front door. Wright said an officer grabbed him by the neck and led him outside on his front lawn.
“He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there,” Wright said.
According to Wright, officers also woke his three young children ages 3, 7, and 11 and put them in a Stockton police patrol car with him. Officers then searched his house.
It’s a story almost impossible to believe. Yet, the Department of Education admits the event took place and says it did authorize the home invasion.
According to the Department of Education’s Office of the Inspector General, the case can’t be discussed publicly until it is closed, but a spokesperson did confirm that the department did issue the search warrant at Wright’s home.

UPDATE: News 10 removed the original story and replaced it with a new one located here. The key change is that it wasn’t an official S.W.A.T. team that crashed through the front door, it was instead the federal Office of the Inspector General.
Which in and of itself is even more troubling. Now feds can come busting through the door over something like this? Through the door of a home that the woman didn’t even live in? And they can arrest the dude and his kids without having to explain any reason for doing so?

This is Nazi-style tactics and it must be stopped. It’s another reason why the DOE should be abolished, and another reason why our government must be brought under checks and balances. This is a show of force and control which is meant to intimidate and coerce.
Any single event like this CANNOT be ignored–we people MUST stand up to this together and let the Fed know this will not be acceptable to the people.
Its time to begin seriously thinking about militias against our government. We cant keep letting them deny our constitutional rights !
We all understand that some people go to school, take out loans, and then say, “Screw you!”. But even if that is the case (as opposed to, say, just being unable to pay the loans back), you don’t arrest people over it. Debtor’s prison has gone the way of the dodo bird, and we have remedies today – garnish wages, put a lien on assets, whatever. What we don’t need is the government bringing in a SWAT team to force people to pay (how the SWAT team would compel payment is beyond me) – and, let’s be real, this is partly a payoff to liberal academia. Jack up college tuition, get the government to loan anyone money, give money to liberal professors and administrators, who then give it to Democrats, and throw the book at anyone who doesn’t or can’t pay to make the cycle continue.

Who in HELL is the dept of education? Where in the world does this bunch of freaking communists get authority to send a swat team? Disband the dept of education ….its a freaking joke even besides this…let locals government and control their schools….and put this A.H.’s in prison for violating these people constitutional rights! This is ludicrous! When you have a Gangster Government,what do you expect?What they put that family through.I am sure those little children were scared to death.This family was victimized and this should never be allowed to happen again.The Dept. of Education should be ashamed of themselves and this gives America one more reason to TEAR DOWN THIS DEPARTMENT.Our kids scores are disgraceful and all they are worried about is the money.The unions and the teachers who should be fired are destroying our country..
Well, I DARE them to come and try that at my house! I would take as many out as I could. Every American has the right to defend themselves, with deadly force if necessary.

Not according to the Ky Supreme Court. The authorities can come into your home with just cause without a search warrant. So it doesn’t surprise me that this Marxist government of the USSA can come into this man’s home and manhandle him and his kids without a warrant. And for what, A DEFAULTED STUDENT LOAN. Unbelievable. But of course we have to understand it was in CA, the land of fruit and nuts.
Whoa! Guess I better figure out how to keep paying those college loans. Better to default on the house instead of Ed-Loan, so there’d be no house for SWAT to enter. How do they treat homeless people with unpaid ed-loans? Would they cordone the shopping basket and seize the newsprint I slept on that night? There’d be a few homes in Texas these goons could breech and might come out in their own body bags having been mistaken for criminal intruders.
Student loans have been around for five decades.Its the moral responsibility of the students to pay these loans back as soon as possible.It is not correct to ignore their obligation because of any bogus excuse.A contract is a contract.The government has been lax and unexcuseable beginning from the 1960′s loans and ever since. Why did the agencies let those 50 years outstanding loans go uncollected? Good question huh?

There are always 2 sides to a situation. Here in this article were alarmed by one side’s actions and its “attack” on our rights.What’s the other side’s (DOE’S) justification ? We never truly found out why they busted the door down looking for the wife/past student. Did she send threatening letters to the DOE saying-get “F’d” and I’ll blow you sorry asses up if I see you here? Why wasn’t she even there in the house with the family at 6am? Is she on the lam elsewhere?Does she have outstanding wants and warrants for other criminal activites? Do you see my point here ?There is more to be know and its foolish for us to see only the “victim’s” side and how horrible it was. Give me more information-the full story, then I’ll make a decision if it was right or wrong.
I don’t condone students borrowing and never paying back. You are a criminal stealing from the tax payers if you don’t reimburse those loans. This is criminally wrong and will always be wrong.You have no liberal “grey area” that gets you off the hook.Suck it up parasite and pay back the loans.
The wife may have already been on her way to work or she may have been on a business trip or out of town for a family emergency. There are a 1,001 reasons she was not there.
What ever happened to just having a cop knock on your door with the warrant or supenia. Why did they just not put a lien on the house like the IRS does?

1. No creditor has had the right to do this in this country for nearly two hundred years. There are no two sides to this. This was an attack launched by the government. If you are a landlord, you can kiss your property good bye in about half the states. If you are a father trying to rescue your children, this use of force would send you up for 10-15. Your opinion is so vile and disgusting, even assuming it’s factual, its Beyond Superlatives.
2. You are wrong in almost all of your particulars. Default rate stats are about as believable as anything the Left puts out. Real default rates have been generally very, very, very low, and compare favorably with any secured credit.
The fact that the debtor bothers you more than the ATTACK by government on a citizen and his children shows that you simply do not understand nor deserve the protection of a community organized by Law rather than Fascism.

This type of thing could never have happened without Obamacare. Yep. You read that right. The government takeover of the student loan industry is contained in the healthcare bill. I’m not too clear on it, but it’s got something to do with funding Obamacare in the same way that the $7.50 per carton cigarette tax pays for SCHIP, or something like that.

The healthcare bill is NOT about health or care.
Cap-and-trade is NOT about the environment.
The “stimulus” bill did NOT stimulate anything.
The Employee Free Choice Act REMOVES the employees’ free choice.

This is so wrong I don’t know where to start. Now when do we see this on national news? And I don’t know for sure but if I were these people I would find the right attorney. (Internet search should do it) Find the person that signed the request for such action, and sue that person. Can’t sue the lenders, police, or even the ass of a judge that would sign for such action. BUT you can sue an individule person if you can prove malice. Like say having little children tramatised in the back of a police car at 6 AM. for starters.
It is a loan. Money that is borrowed should be paid back. These loans are taxpayer funded .. most of the people who get them never pay them back. . that is fraud. This country is in deep doo doo thanks to the moron in the White House. His stimulus failed. bailouts to unions workerus , teachers etc are just political ploys to garner votes. So if you owe money to a credit card company you’re committing an act that warrants officers the ability to break down your front door and place your entire family under custody?
If you truly believe that then I pray God will help us all… because clearly the citizens of this country aren’t going to.
Another good reason to eliminate the IRS as a taxing agency with a police force attitude and replace this agency with a national sales tax or flat tax in order to regain control of the money in this country and thus control the politicians who have turned into nothing but elite thieves who pad their nest and are no longer elected representatives.
Control of the money puts them at a disadvantage, we vote on how much they make and how much we are taxed. For the office holders and appointees, a salary only no perks, no retirement, term limit election system backed by yearly public audits for those holding office will go a long ways in having people that serve the nation.
Whether this woman deliberately defaulted on her loans or not, I do not know. But there is NO justification for these kinds of tactics! Have they done this to the “democrats” in our government who have been well documented as to not paying their taxes? (Geithner and Kerry come to mind) This whole thing is outrageous! I hope those of you sitting on the sidelines can finally see where this gangster government is headed, and TAKE ACTION to stop it. This is not who and what America is- time to step up and fight back against any and all who continue to trample on our Constitution. The Grassroots must make their feelings known, in no uncertain terms. Get our your protest flags, man the phones, do what it takes to stop the new American gestapo.
Hope more of this happens….then the masses will awake and take action.

I was so pissed I just called Richard Burr’s office, my senator from NC. Evidently the Dept of Education has its own enforcement wing now. Can you believe it? I suggest you all call your senators and complain about this. This cannot stand.
He should be thankful that he did not have a weapon when he answered the door or he would have gone the way of the marine in Arizona back in May. Indiana has passed a law saying that there is no need for a search warrant; people submit to the TSA goons at airports. The U.N. wants your guns. Do you think that we are living in a police state, yet?????????
A shutdown of the Federal Government is looking better and better. I hope the GOP finds a spine and lets it happen.
I read about this earlier. Like I said on that post I hope he lawyered up as soon as they got him in the room to talk to him. I also hope there are some good honest lawyers in his area that will take this all the way to the top,meaning obama.
Funny thing … I haven’t read about how they’re using this same tactic on welfare cheats, liars who claim fake or unprovable injuries/medical issues in order to collect SSI, drug dealers/pimps/gang members who are also on food stamps and other forms of aid. It’s time to take the country back from the Fuehrer and his Brown Shirts.

The only surprise here is the ferocity of the Attack.
Note that there are numerous ways to avoid paying these loans, which has led to many people falsely believing the lies spread about the default rates.
The DOE can take SS and even SSI leaving people with mental illnesses, physical illnesses, or the unemployed completely destitute. Enforcement generally has been “compassionate” with a few outliers caused by overzealous bureaucrats.
Now, however, we see the teeth coming out. And it’s not a surprise this was Cali. There the culture has been breaking down longer, and the threshold between Law Enforcement FOR the community and Law Enforcement AGAINST has been closing towards the turnover point.
We will soon see this everywhere. It poses a general challenge, as those of us who are conservative civilians may be faced with the police and other law enforcement agencies becoming as corrupt as all other Leftist dominated institutions.
This is scary – which is the point. And yes, Lib’s whip it out and start whacking, because I am scared. Of course, I have a plan too. When you Lib’s have this happen to you, no doubt you will be screaming bloody murder about it. But most of conservatives will be gone by then either due to age, or flight, or the Gulags.
