UPDATE: House Speaker Boehner confirmed there is a deal He did not elaborate on the deal, but said final language would be voted on next week. In other words… government will not be shut down tonight.

More on this as it develops…

My initial thoughts on the shutdown got about 10,000 unique visits over the past two days, so I figured I would use this post to publish updates LIVE throughout the evening and night. I’ll post comments about the situation as it unfolds, and I’ll include links to what others are saying throughout the web.

Please leave your comments and refresh the page often to take part in the conversation.

INITIAL THOUGHTS
For the record, I’m for a LONG TERM shutdown. I’m not for THIS SHUTDOWN over THIS CONTINUING RESOLUTION.

My reason is simple… I don’t for a second believe this shutdown will last more than a few days. Maybe, MAYBE a week or two. My support of a shutdown has more to do with my belief that most federal government should not exist. There for, a short shutdown to make a point, in my view, is pointless and risky to our efforts to defeat Obama and his ilk in the Senate in 2012.

I think the tea party movement should have been far more vocal in supporting the continuing resolution. In fact, I strongly disagree with those who are against these short term budgets. I actually believe this is a MUCH better way of doing business in our financial situation.

Again, the short term CR currently proposed cut $12 BILLION over a week, waged war on taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and a lot of “green” funding, and fully funded our military for the rest of the year. Where was the tea party movement on this?

The movement seems to have a hard time facing reality right now. Democrats are not going to allow Republicans to pass any meaningful cuts. It’s just not going to happen. It’s ok for us to want, no, DEMAND that Republicans slash away at government in all ways, but we can only demand it if it’s actually possible.

On the other hand, I understand the argument to shut it all down long term. Primarily because we’re in a hole we can’t get out of. But we have to understand that before we go down that path, we have to help our neighbors, friends and family understand exactly why this is our position.

Otherwise we’re just screaming for a shutdown in a way that makes us look like we have no solutions or logical reasoning for it. Like many of you, I want entire departments closed down for good. But I want it to happen with significant support across America.

We need to do a better job of messaging. We need to win seats in the Senate in 2012, and we need to make sure Obama is not in charge of the White House.

And these are my initial thoughts…

LIVE UPDATES
I’ll be providing updates through the night. You can also watch my updates on Twitter here.

7:31 PM: Steve Moore of the Wall Street Journal is calling this all a “classic Mexican stand-off,” suggesting this is all a test of manhood. This is good to see Republicans not allow themselves to be pushed around, but it’s unfortunate they’re playing chicken with military pay and billions of taxpayer dollars.

7:33 PM: Fox News and all other major outlets agree that there are no confirmed “deals” underway and a shutdown appears to be on the way.

That said, some analysts in the beltway believe a bridge will be in place by Monday and we’ll be right back at square one.

7:46 PM: Mike Huckabee doesn’t think a shutdown is the best idea.

Michelle Bachmann is also suggesting this isn’t the right decision right now.

Our federal government spent $3.5 trillion last year, and is on a similar pace this year. On average, our spending adds about $30 billion to the deficit every week. Yet Washington is now embroiled in a pitched battle – that could lead to a government slowdown – over possible spending cuts of just $40 billion. Even the best case scenario would be cuts of $61 billion.

7:51 PM: According to this Fox News report, the potential shutdown isn’t quite so shutdowny.

The Fox News story shows one of the reasons I believe a shutdown, if it happens, won’t live beyond Monday. Democrats can’t afford to have the nation see how we’ll all be able to live on without all the “non-essential” employees at work.

I would LOVE to see some numbers for what the cost of the “non essential” part of government is.

8:03 PM: Nancy Pelosi isn’t in Washington tonight, of course. Instead she’s at a George Soros conference speaking to the most extreme of the extreme left.

8:06 PM: Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam is on Fox News with Bill O’Reilly. He keeps saying it’s all about the money, but can’t seem to provide an actual number on what the fight is all about.

This gets to the base of the problem right now. America is sitting around saying “what is this REALLY all about?” If it’s about money, how much? If it’s about spending, how much? What is it REALLY all about?

Both Republicans and Democrats are firing back and forth with political talking points and none of us really know what is going on. This, in effect, makes it look like our entire government is more interested in getting political points than actually getting things under control.

8:10 PM: Carl Cameron says rumors floating all over the place about a potential. Still no deal though.

8:18 PM: This is big. Planned Parenthood spent more than $1,000,000 last year electing Democrats.

8:32 PM: Still no deal. There is a VERY interesting back and forth happening on CNN. David Gergen is basically saying the biggest “political” loser in this fight is the President. Both Spitzer and Gergen (not conservative by ANY stretch o the imagination) feel that Obama has been seen as “on the sidelines” and ineffective overall.

They also point out how embarrassing this in for both the American people as well as our reputation around the world. This is very true and reflects much of the frustration in general.

8:50 PM: We’re down to about 3 hours and still no deal.

In the mean time… Chuck Schumer seems to think anyone demanding deep cuts in spending is a “flea.”

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) compared House conservatives to a flea Friday as rhetoric in the spending fight intensified.

Schumer, who has been criticizing Republicans all day, said in a floor speech Friday that conservatives were the flea controlling the dog, which he said in this case is a federal government that could shut down at midnight.

9:05 PM: Wolf Blitzer just referred to the situation as the “Countdown to Chaos,” which is incredibly misleading.

First of all, if this mini-shutdown does occur, it will be relatively insignificant and short lived. Secondly, the chaos is already in play and the countdown began YEARS ago!

9:07 PM: Senate Majority Failure Harry Reid is now scheduled to speak at 10:30 PM Eastern time. Right now it does not appear there is a deal in place.

This is good because I think the only two acceptable options are A) Democrats accept the CR as it was passed in the house, or B) A shutdown occurs.

Anything outside of this suggests that the GOP will not be able to win long term due to an unwillingness to fight to the finish.

9:30 PM: Senator Mike Johanns might have let it slip that a deal was coming by prematurely posting a statement on his website. The statement was immediately pulled, but not before a screenshot was taken.

UPDATE on last update… that statement could have just been loaded “in case” a deal occurred. Quite possible… but still?

9:38 PM: Fox News has confirmed with John Boehner’s office that no deal has been reached.

9:57 PM: Harry Reid is about to speak from the Senate floor. Not sure what this means. If he’s speaking from the floor does that mean he’ll announce there is no chance for a deal? Seems like any statement of lesser value would be made out in the hall or in a press room, no?

While we wait, here is an interesting article on how Michelle Bachmann might be able to pull of a win in a run for President.

10:11 PM: Still waiting on Harry Reid to speak from the floor. Another interesting link… Obama wants $53 BILLION for a high-speed train, yet his party is throwing a fit about $12 BILLION in cuts?

There is some serious contrast shown in this fight.

10:18 PM: Michelle Bachmann stands strong on her commitment to vote NO on any bill that does not completely defund Obamacare. Wish other Republicans were as strong on the issue.

Allen West also says he’s not really ready to vote on 2011 bill at its current stage. So far the more conservative members of Congress are holding their ground.

Right now it’s all about what Boehner does tonight.

10:24 PM: Carl Rove on Fox News trying to suggest the current cuts are a great start. Carl Rove seems to forget that under his watch (with Bush) this snowball got quite a boost.

Remember, the first big government bailouts happened under Bush and his Administration. Republicans were spend drunk during the Bush years and Carl Rove has little room to talk about cuts.

Outside of spending, though, Rove is pretty good on political strategy. He just isn’t credible on this particular issue… in my view.

Harry Reid coming up momentarily. Still no deal to speak of.

10:36 PM: Still no Harry Reid. Possible bad news, though… Fox News just suggested they’re hearing a possible short term patch bill might be in the works. The numbers they suggest are $3 billion with no riders. This would be a HUGE cave by Republicans in my opinion.

10:50 PM: Well, it looks like Boehner struck a deal.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has, as Right Turn predicted, a deal, and not just any deal. According to reports, the outlines of a deal include $39 billion in spending cuts and withdrawal of the Planned Parenthood rider. In the end, as Boehner said, it was about money. He got Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to buy the rider, one his caucus was willing to give up, for another billion dollars. The enormousness of the win for Boehner shouldn’t be underestimated, if the deal holds. He didn’t divide his caucus; he kept it together. He didn’t take “no” for an answer ( as in “Not a penny in cuts”); through the course of the year he got a total of $49 billion in cuts. So how’d he do it?

If this is true… what happened to the promise for the $100 billion in cuts?

10:54 PM: Government will not shut down! (at least not tonight) House Speaker John Boehner is now speaking, saying he and Harry Reid have struck a deal. Says the final bill will be voted on next week.

I can’t help but feel this is not going to end well for the movement. In fact, it feels a lot like a desperate attempt by both sides to avoid a shut down tonight.

11:12 PM: Out of the two options I liked best (shutdown or pass original CR) neither succeeded. Boehner caved and agreed to a deal and now Harry Reid, Barack Obama and the rest of the Democrats are taking full credit for “Historic spending cuts.”

More on this tomorrow.

  1. Craig says:

life is a compromise…Lets not hold out for “the abortion deal’ in order to get the cuts needed…Lets talk cuts and cuts only…Looks like Dems have come to the table…Lets get the dollars figured out and fight politics later…I will not stand by and watch servicemen not get paid…I have been involved with the Tea Party movement and have been a Repub for 40 years. Stop the Grandstanding and get on with business..

    • judy ratliff says:

Then get on the GOP sites and email obama. You can also find his email in search and I know I did.

    • Sue says:

Compromise with the left is how we ended up where we are! No compromise with Communists. Figures Pelosi is at Bretton Woods with the Soros “moon bats”…we have protests going on throughout the weekend.

    • Mrs. Wilson says:

GOP should hold their ground, let We The People know they care more about the USA than their jobs being threatened. They will be re elected if they can show they have the guts to stand by their principles!

      • Everyone is standing up to their principals. The only problem is the liberal value system is not economically based. Kumbaya is fine if you can afford it. We can’t. There is nothing to be proud of in politics. Both sides have betrayed you one way or another. Our hopes lie with the Tea Party Freshmen. We need at least one more election cycle to make desperately needed reform happen. We need to vet our candidates better. Losing to Harry Reid in Nevada was inexcusable.

    • Life is compromise, and that all we have done since O’bama took office. Now it is time to take some back. It’s funny how the subject of compromise wasn’t on the table when O’bama care was being debated, behind closed doors with no input from the economically sane.

  2. Mick Wenlock says:

While I applaud keeping the pressure on I agree with you on one key issue – the Republican House is not going to get meaningful wholesale budget cuts, not until the senate falls to the republicans as well. So making a regular fight every few weeks is good – it forces the dems to support those things which can be used against them. They have come out in favor of supporting PLamnned Parenthood and not paying the military used correctly this is going to cost them big in 2012.

    • eric says:

“So making a regular fight every few weeks is good – it forces the dems to support those things which can be used against them. ”

      EXACTLY

Republicans can actually keep Democrats on the ropes from now through election night of 2012. Once side wants big cuts, the other side wants more taxes.

It’s a position of strength for us to be in right now.

      • Well either you have the balls for the job or you don’t and apparently we don’t have them yet in the Republican party. Just heard the results of the funding deal in Washington. Up to 40 billion in cuts, a drop in the bucket. No defunding of Planned Parenthood, or NPR. I’m sorry but I’m very disappointed.

    • judy ratliff says:

It is time we held these people responcible for where they have taken our country. We have a tendency to do it with intelligence and not rioting like others. Let them have the shutdown and take it from there. Obama is the one that said he will shut off the troops not the GOP.

    • I wish I could be sure that it was going to cost them big time. I fear we are talking amongst ourselves, when in reality we need to be having dialog with the dazed and amazed that make up the liberal support group. Hard core liberals are brain dead from drug abuse, but normal democrats must still be reachable some how. We need to expand our outreach. We need to not make this Rep vs. Dem., we need to make this sane versus insane.

  3. Shut the booger down. I listen to Reid and Pelosi and have to leave the room because the arguments are so sophomoric. Can’t we muster more brain activity than this. Come on Dems. I know you can do it. Debbie Wasserman Scholtz are you kidding me, and what about Weiner? We are in the crisis mode in case you all missed it.

  4. Carlton Faulconer says:

Republicans need to stand up to liberals and fight more maybe even using the dirty tricks Obama and Democrats use. Think dirty like democrats fight like they fight.

John Macain lost the election because he wanted to be a nice guy. That is a bunch of B.S If he had told the world what kind of bed guy Obama was he might have been Prsident.

Shut it down or get what you want.

    • judy ratliff says:

      I agree completely.

    • McCaine was a soft spoken weak candidate. We need strength and character and some charisma. After analyzing the choices, I think we need to talk Chris Christie into running against O’bama. Maybe Trump?

    • MRO says:

First, seriously? If it was ‘dirty’ when the Democrats did it don’t you think people will see through it if we take that approach. Is that really how you want this movement to be defined? C’mon.

If John McCain won the election we would be worse off than we are now (Glen Beck’s words not mine… and I agree). Reason: If McCain was President we would have been pursuing the same ridiculous fiscal policies with no Tea Party. At least now we have a movement to respond to the insanity.

      • Agreed, as long as we can keep the movement growing and learning. We need to commit to a value system and not a party. The only thing that makes the Republicans valuable to us is that they were weak enough to invade and take over. I recently watched a 1hr 48min movie on the Wall Street meltdown, who did it and how. The trail of corruption extends to both parties, multiple administrations, and educational institutions. We must replace the old guard and support candidates like Col. West and Paul Ryan just to name a few. Purge and reform can be done in a couple of election cycles if we stay focused

  5. Maggie Zoiss says:

Defunding Planned Parenthood is not even really about ABORTION! It’s about us giving Planned Parenthood money to elect DEMOCRATS, and finance ad campaigns to convince us they are “the good guys” who just happen to make BILLIONS of dollars killing babies! This is EXACTLY where the cuts should begin.

    • judy ratliff says:

      AGREE

    • Bobbie says:

Amen, Maggie! They buy demoncrats, spend taxpayer dollars, perpetuate the culture of killing in our schools, and kill babies!

    • Agreed, but that’s an intelligent approach. The Liberals rely entirely on an emotional approach, no logic intended. We need to frame our arguments not only intelligently but emotionally appealing as well. Word choice and phrasing is everything in sales and that’s what we are doing. We are selling a vision of America. Notice the liberals sell Planned Parenthood on positive preventive services like mammograms and cancer screening, not abortion. Disconnecting the arguments is the key to winning Independents.

  6. Helen Simon says:

What’s so weird to me is that even though it SEEMS to be about forcing US to buy abortions for poor in DC, when harry reid etc. say so, rather than owning the battle which has HUGE support to win now, they cower and say it’s about a number! Where’s the integrity? Truth is the only way to wim this-it stinks!

  7. Remember who put us in this position!! The dems! The ones who hate war yet start every war. They paid Lockheed Martin the military complex people yet refuse our service people. These are puppets for the NWO and they need to go straight to hell. Scream loud and long to repubs to get our cuts and not to book we have to win this one or it is either time to all not to pay taxes. If 30% of this country did not it would send them to their knees. Revolt We have been to calm and it is high time for an explosion, we out number them. did you also know that a judge on the Wisconsin appeals court is the cousin of GW Bush, how convenient to cripple this legit win!!! Keep calling and telling them to grow spines and go into the bowls of Hell to fight Satan. We will not let Soros win

    • judy ratliff says:

      USA!!USA!!!

    • I applaud your enthusiasm, but not paying taxes will play into the hands of socialism and tyranny. We need reform of the tax code and clone Paul Ryan and probably Michele Bacheman. Remember both sides have foresaken you, only replacement candidates will provide Salvation.

P.S. It is the Bowels of Hell not the Bowls.

  8. It is a REAL SHAME that WE (The People) Are Caught in the Situation where the GROUP CALLED “THE DEMOCRATS” (or (“DEM- -O-C-RATS”), FEEL that they MUST TAKE MONEY,(THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ,,HAVE NOT EARNED),,AND GIVE IT PEOPLE <(Who For the Most part),DO NOT DESERVE IT ,YET have COME TO EXPECT IT? !

THIS IS THE GROUP OF AMERICAN'S,,THET THE DEMOS. NOW REFERR TO AS "THE MIDDLE CLASS" PEOPLE THAT WILL STARVE.

ALSO,,WE SHOULD START AN ENTIRELY and TOTALLY NEW APPROACH TO EDUCATION.

WE MUST START EARLY TO TEACH <<THE REAL AMERICAN HISTORY,,AND HOW TO BE A GREAT AMERICAN AND MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN ! !
THE GREATEST FIX SHOULD START WITH REPLACING THE SENATE AND THE WHITE HOUSE WITH "REAL AMERICANS" !

    • Gianni says:

Democrats get much, if not most of their votes through vote-buying. They create constituencies they support and in return, get their votes. It’s most blatant and pernicious with blacks, Latinos, public unions, gays, and Socialists.

    • Good Point. End the Dept. of Education in Wash. Return Ed to the states and communities. Socialism if not Communism has a strangle hold on our educational institutions in the form of the Teachers Unions and many college professors. Great teachers are a blessing, bad ones need to go. Who decides — the community, not the unions or DC

  9. Gianni says:

I think Boehner should hold out for the whole enchilada to send a chilling message to Reid and Obama; the game has changed. The worm has turned. The jig is up. If the government shuts down, withdraw the current CR and come back with an even larger one, and say every time it is rejected, the House will just keep upping the ante. God knows, we really need hundreds of BILLIONS to be cut even in this 2011 budget.

    • judy ratliff says:

YES!! You have hit it right on the head. You put them in to get control and now we demand it. Do whatever it takes. Impeachment would be the best, where is the birth certificate?

      • Eagle says:

I’ve not seen a single politician yet ask that question. I had hopes in Boehner – until I heard him say that Allahbama was a citizen. When everybody in WDC is blind to the truth – how can we ever expect to see the birth certificate? I trust no politician in Washington D.C. to do what is good for America. There are simply to many progressives, socialists, communists, marxists, maoists, and other traitors – who couldn’t care less about America or the American people – already in power for me to think that they’ll change. SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN UNTIL THEY ALL WHITHER AND FALL OFF OF THE VINE. Empty the city – one big flush and get rid of the sewage setting in their own private offices – start from scratch. Pull our troops back home and stop the flow of illegal slime from crossing our southern borders. This is America – it’s time they all stop bowing down to some mooslum piece of crap, stop apologizing for all the good we’ve done and people we’ve helped – and start defending our own country! MAYBE then we’ll stand a chance of getting back to the roots our Founding Fathers laid down for us. If those folks are feeling like they hate it here so much that they want to destroy our freedoms that we vets have fought so hard for – try moving to Iran and seeing how much you enjoy the kind of fredoms you’re trying to get placed here.

    • Bobbie says:

YOU are on it, Gianni! The dems are so used to the Republicans being so bloody compromising and back-bending, that they keep pushing their agendas with full expectation that we won’t push back. I say, the line MUST be drawn! The American people are at the precipice of oblivion! We deserve to have valiant defenders along the lines of Patrick Henry, James Hamilton and George Washington. The only thing the dems want to defend is their socialist ideology. Draw the line, up the ante, never, never, never, never surrender.

    • In the game of Chicken Boehner flinched. Fear of repercussions like Newt’s 95 shut down. This is going to be a long bloody battle. Liberalism vs Freedom, which ironically you would presume to be a liberal construct.

  10. Gary M. says:

It’s important for us Republicans, whether middle of the road, right or left that we not lose sight of the forest for the trees! Stick to the financials now and keep 2012 centered in your sights! WE have to gain at least the majority in the Senate and retain control of the house at the very least. If we can’t take Obama out, we can “castrate” him and make him almost invisible. If we get bogged down in platform building now we will not gain the positive visibility we need. Politics as usual causes us to add this and that to bills. It’s the old way and we need to stop that. It will bite us in the ass if we continue in this predictable way. If we want to cut gov’t spending and maintain that is the most important thing, then say to the Dems: We want 100billion cut from the balance of the 2011 budget. You (the dems) decide where in the budget it comes from. That’s bipartisanship in a novel new way!

    • Gianni says:

“We want 100billion cut from the balance of the 2011 budget. You (the dems) decide where in the budget it comes from. That’s bipartisanship in a novel new way!”
      >>> We need to be careful with that approach. For example, the Dems could decide to take the entire $100 billion from say, the Defense budget, and leave all their vote-buying expense activities intact. Just today, billions of added expenses we were announced to address ethnic “health disparities.” Seems white people are healthier and live longer than blacks and Latinos. So, we must spend more money to bring everyone to the same health and longevity. Could this get any more absurd? Should we invest millions of dollars on young white men to address their lack of numbers in the NBA?

      • Gary M. says:

Were they to do that, they would be the fools. In order for politicos to “function” in the peoples’ best interest they can’t look foolish. Some how, some way we have to find a way to stop the petty bickering. The “mine is bigger than yours” has no place in what all agree is a desperate situation for the US.

  11. Mack says:

Unreal I just listen to Harry Reid, Talking about the cuts in Planned Parenthood and bring up his Wife, Daughter and granddaughters. They will not beable to have the test they need. What does that tell you about Old Harry? That we are paying for his women to be tested for what ever he wants tested, or dumping a baby in a landfill somewere. And we are going to pay for it next it will be Obama’s girls we pay for. I truely find it hard to believe that the women in this great country do not see what the hell is going on. The Democrates are play them like a fine piano. Wake the blank blank up.

  12. John says:

I am a life-long, rock-ribbed Republican, but nearly left the Party; or I should have said the Party was leaving me. With the rise of the Tea Party, I became an enthusiastic supporter. It was refreshing to find people bold enough to stand up to those who are leading our once-great nation off the edge of the cliff. When the Republicans endorsed many of the Tea Party’s positions, I decided to give the Republicans another chance. If the Republicans back down to the spendthrift Democrats, this time I surely will leave the Party, and I’m sure many more like me will do the same. The Republican Party will become a permanent minority party. Is this what you want? It’s time to get a spine and stand up financial sanity!

    • Eagle says:

If America doesn’t unite to stop the inlux of illegals, and all the unconstitutional, and illegal, policies being employed by these traitors in power in WDC – and do it NOW – I fear that Gerald Celente will be completely accurate when he predicted an armed rebellion – a revolution by 2012. I pray that doesn’t happen – but stand ready to fight “all enemies – foreign and domestic” if need be.

      • MRO says:

Against whom will you be fighting?

        • Eagle says:

ANYBODY that fits into the category of “all enemies foreign – and domestic”. The progressives, socialists, communists, marxists, maoists, all of the traitors trying to destroy what our Founding Fathers gave us – this REPUBLIUC. Anybody who has to ask who the enemy is in today’s world really hasn’t got a clue.

  13. Paul Cooper says:

I completely agree with you that most government and services should not exist at the Federal level. Good government must be close to the people and NOT as it is now with one representative for 700.000 + constituents.
My own politicians claim they are voting their conscience and I keep reminding them they are supposed to be voting the will of the people, not the party line.
    They just don’t get it.
I really appreciate your efforts, please keep up the good work.

  14. Patrick Duffy says:

All this fighting over 100 billion? This monster in Washington DC is overspending 1.6 TRILLION and the so-called conservatives can’t get a 100 billion dollar cut? Even if they cut an entire 1 TRILLION (which seems absolutly impossible at this point), we will still have a 600 BILLION dollar deficit, which will require the debt ceiling to be increased AGAIN and AGAIN, and AGAIN!
In my opinion America is FINISHED, and Obama may be the last US president. The only hope is that this shutdown is PERMANENT and it never reopens, including the military, which is a FALSE GOD, which cannot save America from its enemies. God is our only protector, and no amount of military spending is EVER going to change that fact, and when a nation turns away from God and REJECTS his commandments, that nation will fail.
You see, God warned that crushing debt to our enemies, and alien invasions would result from ungodly living, and that is the reason for our troubles. A MASSIVE reduction in our standard of living is coming very soon, no matter what they do in Washington DC. Either it will collapse as as result of the destruction of the dollar (they don’t cut spending), or it will collapse because the government stops spending borrowed money from China, which is all that is proping up our economy! You people are not even aware of how much government spending is part of your daily lives! We aren’t producing, only consuming, so when the spending stops (or the dollar collapses), it’s over.
Stop debating on who is going to be the next president. It does not matter. There is nobody left to tax, and we aborted 40 million people that would have been paying Social Security taxes, so that’s going broke too. Open your eyes to the truth. Unless America REPENTS and turns to God, we will lose our republic no matter WHO is in power or what political party is controlling congress.

  15. Perriwinkle says:

If Trump was in there negotiating, it would have been done long ago.
    I’m a huge Trump fan……..

    • Bekah says:

Me too! I laughed when I first heard he was talking about a run… then I researched him a little… I’m all for Trump For President!

  16. Lisa K says:

Republicans, hold fast to your promises of cutting spending and constantly inform the the public, of what you’re doing & why, in an informative/full disclosure manner, including us as partners in greatly lowering the debt and balancing the budget, just we citizens have had to do in our homes. You promised $100 million, stick to it. Years of compromize got us where we are today. If you let the Democrats hold you ransom with stalemates & shutdowns over $7 million, what will happen at $10, $20, the $100 promised? We ALL owe over $14 TRILLION (plus interest) TOGETHER-we want the debt increase stopped & the huge debt greatly lowered towards balance. We SHOUL NOT be forced to fund abortions. 90% of what Planned Parenthood does, financed by the public, are abortions! Planned Parenthood contributed over a million dollars in funding Democrat elections-we KNOW what’s going on, are all the Dems care about is their emotional voter buying entitlement programs? Forcing us to fund abortions against our will, illegals on welfare? Republicans, fullfill your promises, the majority of Americans are STILL Conservative center/right, and are looking for you to stick with your promises & with the Conservative values you said you represent. They have screwed us over for the past 2 years, while spitting in your faces, we voted you in to stand up for us! Remember how your felt these last 2 years, remember how angry & frustrated we’ve been! Stick to your word & you will have our support!

    • MRO says:

I agree with you. However, the Republicans should not lose our support because they could not get everything past a Democrat-controlled Senate and Executive Branch. We put Republicans in charge of the House, not the entire Federal Government. Continue to support them until they have control over the Senate and Executve Branch. If they can’t/won’t get it done then… then we vote them out. But the goal today is to win in 2012.

  17. Michael Johnston says:

Don’t blame Republicans for this. Democrats had control of the government but didn’t pass a budget because of the 2010 election. They knew the losses would be even worse if Americans knew what they wanted to do with spending. They played politics and kicked the can, knowing the mess they would create for the new republican controlled House. They all need to be fired and sent home.

    • MRO says:

      Thank you. You are correct.

    • Keggrrr says:

“Don’t blame Republicans for this. Democrats had control of the government but didn’t pass a budget because of the 2010 election. ”

Why did’nt Boehner and the rest of the republicans hammer this message to the American people? They should have been shouting from the rooftops that the Dems refused to do their job.

Boehner also made a big mistake. The house passed a bill or resolution this week, (sorry do not know what it is called exactly) that would have funded the military peeps to get paid. Boehner should have been shouting till anybody and everybody within ear distance knows that Obama and his merry band of socialists scum do not want to pay our truly ESSENTIAL government employees. He could have used this to back Obama into corner.

  18. BIG POPPA BUBBA says:

If the Republicans cave in on this, in 2012, we will say to them what we will say to Obama and the Demoncrats…

    YOU’RE FIRED!!!

    • Bekah says:

I’m with ya! I’m tired of republicans folding to the liberals ~ we elected them to do a job – either do it.. or you’re out!

      • MRO says:

OK, let’s think this through. So what does that mean? We put up a Tea Party Candidate against a Republican-held seat in a swing or leaning-Democrat district and lose that Republican-held seat because it is a moderate district. How does that help the movement?

  19. Clyde W Hodge says:

    Shutdown Countdown
A midnight deadline neared for a government shutdown. “I feel strongly that my Republican colleagues are wrong in trying to move toward deficit reduction solely on the backs of working families and the middle class – cutting education and head start, cutting community health centers, cutting the social security administration, cutting LIHEAP and other important programs,” Sen. Bernie Sanders said. “In my view, with the wealthiest people in our country doing extremely well, the people on top should also be asked to contribute toward deficit reduction. Further, the idea that the Republicans are prepared to shut-down the government over the funding of women’s health care is totally absurd.”
    Dear Senator Bernie Sanders,
Not only do I believe your Republican colleagues should go ahead and do all of the above, but there should be a 25% reduction (cut, layoff) of all federal employee. A 10% reduction of all federal employees’ wages. Including Senators and Congressmen. Not military.

    Sincerely,

    Clyde W Hodge

  20. John S says:

The House Republicans are in a very unique position. Only the House can initiate a budget. Neither the Senate nor the President can initiate one. The House is in the driver’s seat. They really DO NO need to negotiate. They can present a budget chock full of all of the monetary cuts and riders they wish to present such as de-funding the 105 billion dollar slush fund for Obamacare, de-funding NPR, Planned Parenthood, the EPA or whatever. They can tell the Senate and the President “take it or leave it, this is all you are getting”. If the Senate doesn’t pass it or the President vetoes it the House Republicans can blame the Democrats for the ensuing shutdown.

Fox is now reporting that there is a deal for 40 billion in cuts and the riders are removed. It is unnecessary for Boehner to negotiate anything. If this is true I am joining Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation to unseat Boehner because he has let us all down and he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He threw his power away!

    • Wes says:

I disagree, Boehner is a great negotiator and just made the Democrats overvalue the Planned Parenthood rider and made them buy it for $1 billion. Boehner is now more powerful.

      • Maggie Zoiss says:

Sorry, but not even one of the tens of millions of lives lost at Planned Parenthood is worth 1 billion dollars, which is a drop in the deficit bucket.

      • Eagle says:

Boehner just got neutered – like there was much there to start with anyway. So – all of those lives to be lost will now have a price tag huh? Combined – they are now worth $1 Billion. Apparently killing an unborn baby is alright to you if it doesn’t cost to much? And some people wonder how we got where we are today as a society.

    • MRO says:

Dude, Boehner is one guy of 535 in the Congress. Even though the House has the power of the purse, it must be authorized by the Senate and the President. If there was a shut down, number one it would have been bad for the country, number two it would have been bad for the Tea Party movement. By getting this budget approved, we keep the middle on our side. Whether you like it or not, we need the middle to win the Senate and the Presidency. Lay off of Boehner. He has done an outstanding job of keeping the movement intact.

      • eric says:

“He has done an outstanding job of keeping the movement intact.”

I beg to differ. Watch what happens next week and you’ll see what I mean.

      • Eagle says:

He’s been about as much good to “the movement” as Allahbama has been in defending the United States.

  21. David says:

I am looking forward to the next election. I am taking my shovel to Washington! It is time to scoop the poop and clean out the Whitehouse, Congress, the Dems and half the Reps! America was beautiful, it will be again. As for shutting it down, it is all a big joke!!!

  22. Charles says:

The words “Democrats” and “spending cuts” should not be in the same sentence, since they don’t even exist in the same universe. Democrats don’t know HOW to reduce government, they only know how to increase it. They excel at that.

    • Keggrrr says:

Come now, the Dems do believe in spending cuts. First they spend 14 trillion and then they make it seem like they are doing the country a HUGE favor by proposing $31 billion in cuts….lol

  23. MRO says:

    Eric,

I don’t get you sometimes man. You started off by saying that avoiding a government shutdown was a good thing and that we can only do so much with Democrats in power. I agreed whole-heartedly with your initial thoughts. At the end of the night you seemed despondent and fearful that Democrats would come out on top. Dude, just because they are going to claim that this was their achievement, no one is going to buy it. This is a win for us and the Republicans. The real goal hear is the Senate and the White House in 2012. This gets us one step closer to that. Buck up!

    • eric says:

@MRO… that’s because I was actually for the $12 billion cut over a week. That CR included the riders and military funding for the rest of the year.

At that rate, cuts would amount to $48 BILLION a month. Now we “might” get $39 billion over 2011. Big difference.

I didn’t think Boehner would let Dems get credit for a cut that I view as insignificant over a full 2011 span.

      I was wrong…

      • MRO says:

What about the argument that this is a step in the direction of winning the Senate and White House? Is that not the goal?

Additionally, if the truth be told, this is all going to be a distant memory in a month. By getting this behind him, Boehner and the rest of the Republicans can can focus on advancing Ryan’s plan.

We have got to be supportive of the House Republicans.

        • Eagle says:

That makes as much sense as somebody saying, “I’ll support them – they aren’t QUITE as liberal as they were”. People get support who deserve it – not because of who they are or what office they set in. That’s the misguided thinking that got us in the position we’re in today.

      • MRO says:

        @Eric Odom,

Eric, I read your initial thoughts again and I’m sorry, but what you are saying here is just not syncing up with what you wrote then.

We must get the Senate and the Executive. To do that we have to pick our battles. There is a whole other world out there that does not come anywhere near to the way we think, or think about this as much as we do. Because of that, if Republicans have the appearance of being radical, they lose a lot of stock in the minds of those folks. So we have to be willing to accept the short term compromise so that we can get through 2012 with victories in the Senate sufficient to take it over and, of course, the Executive Branch. You, sir, need to keep this movement focused on that target. When that happens, then, and only then, can we start talking about getting the country to real fiscal sanity and Constitutionally limited government.

  24. only objection i had with a shut down was funding for the troops and vets. we can talk idealogy another time. now for the Ryan plan or something close to it.

  25. John says:

This isn’t compromise…this is Republican leadership betrayal.

  26. Gary M. says:

    (ANNONYMOUS)

And it came to pass in the Age of Insanity that the people of the land
Called America , having lost their morals, their initiative, and their
Will to defend their liberties, chose as their Supreme Leader that
    Person known as “The One.”

He emerged from the vapors with a message that had no meaning; but He
Hypnotized the people telling them, “I am sent to save you.” My lack
Of experience, my questionable ethics, my monstrous ego, and my
Association with evil doers are of no consequence. I shall save you
With Hope and Change. Go, therefore, and proclaim throughout the
Land that he who proceeded me is evil, that he has defiled the n ation,
And that all he has built must be destroyed. And the people rejoiced,
For even though they knew not what “The One” would do, he had promised
That it was good; and they believed. And “The One” said ” We live in
The greatest country in the world. Help me change everything about it!”
And the people said, “Hallelujah! Change is good!”
Then He said, “We are going to tax the rich fat-cats.” And the
People said “Sock it to them!” “And redistribute their wealth.” And
The people said, “Show us the money!” And the he said, ”
Redistribution of wealth is good for everybody..”

And Joe the plumber asked, ” Are you kidding me? You’re going to
Steal my money and give it to the deadbeats??” And “The One”
Ridiculed and taunted him, and Joe’s personal records were hacked and publicized.
One lone reporter asked, “Isn’t that Marxist policy?” And she was
Banished from the Kingdom’s press corps “.

Then a citizen asked, “With no foreign relations experience and
Having zero military experience or knowledge, how will you deal with
Radical terrorists?” And “The One” said, “Simple. I shall sit with
Them and talk with them and show them how nice we really are; and they
Will forget that they ever wanted to kill us all!” And the people
Said, “Hallelujah!! We are safe at last, and we can beat our weapons
Into free cars for the people!”

Then “The One” said “I shall give 95% of you lower taxes.” And one,
lone voice said, “But 40% of us don’t pay ANY taxes.” So “The One”
said, “Then I shall give you some of the taxes the fat-cats pay!”
And the people said, “Hallelujah! Show us the money!”

Then “The One” said, “I shall tax your Capital Gains when you sell
your homes!” And the people yawned and the slumping housing market
collapsed. And He said. “I shall mandate employer-funded health care
for every worker and raise the minimum wage. And I shall give every
person unlimited healthcare and medicine and transportation to the
clinics.” And the people said, “Give me some of that!”
Then he said, “I shall penalize employers who ship jobs overseas.”
And the people said, “Where’s my rebate check?”

Then “The One” said, “I shall bankrupt the coal industry and
electricity rates will skyrocket!” And the people said, “Coal is
dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don’t care for that part
about higher electric rates.” So “The One” said, Not to worry. If
your rebate isn’t enough to cover your expenses, we shall bail you out.
Just sign up with the ACORN and you troubles are over!”

Then He said, “Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let’s
grant them amnesty, Social Security, free education, free lunches,
free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing…” And
the people said, “Hallelujah!” and they made him king!

And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and
ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others
simply gave up and went out of business and the economy sank like unto
a rock dropped from a cliff.

The banking industry was destroyed. Manufacturing slowed to a
crawl. And more of the people were without a means of support.

Then “The One” said, “I am the “the Chosen One”- The Messiah – and I’m here
to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have
enough!” But our foreign trading partners said unto Him. “Wait a
minute. Your dollar is not worth a pile of camel dung! You will have
to pay more… And “The One” said, “Wait a minute. That is
    not fair!!”

And the world said, “Neither are these other idiotic
programs you have embraced. Lo, you have become a Socialist state and
a second-rate power . Now you shall play by our rules!”

And the people cried out, “Alas, alas!! What have we done?” But yea
verily, it was too late. The people set upon The One and spat upon
him and stoned him, and his name was dung. And the once mighty nation
was no more; and the once proud people were without sustenance or
shelter or hope. And the Change “The One” had given them was as like
unto a poison that had destroyed them and like a whirlwind that
consumed all that they had built.

And the people beat their chests in despair and cried out in anguish,
“give us back our nation and our pride and our hope!!” But it was too
late, and their homeland was no more.

You may think this a fairy tale, but it’s not.
    It’s happening RIGHT NOW

THIS really tells it like it is. After reading it — and before you go into the bathroom to throw-up — forward it to your friends and those you know who care about our country and what is happening to it under the rule of Commissar Obamanation.

The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

  27. Daniel says:

Shut it down stop Obama care before it ruins our great country

  28. John D. Anderson says:

I want to say you cut out what I wrote last night and I have been behind you for a longtime. But now I cast you out like a piece of dirt. I will vote my way and it will be Ind. not Rep.!

  29. E.G. says:

I’m sorry to see that Boehner caved on the Healthcare defunding–75% of people want it gone. And don’t see the “Ryan Plan” having a snowball’s chance in h…. Nothing will get done between now and 2013. The only way we can prevail is to take the House, Senate and Presidency in 2012. End of subject.

  30. Shavager says:

I’ve sent Boehner an email and told him I think he’s a “Candy Ass” politician for giving in, folks. If this were the OK Corral–he and Republicans have let Obumbler and Reid portray themselves as Earp and Doc Holliday while the Republicans are the Clantons, Obumbler and Reid stared’em down and Boehner blinked. BE AWARE: Obumbler HAS SPENT MORE MONEY IN TWO YEARS THAN 43 PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS SPEND IN 234 YEARS COMBINED!! He’s added almost $5 TRILLION IN DEBT IN TWO YEARS….$38.5 billion in cuts IS OFFSET BY $54.1 BILLION IN INCREASED DEBT WHILE THEY WERE ARGUING THIS WEEK! YOU CAN’T CUT TRILLIONS by cutting a few billions here and there. TIME FOR REPUBLICANS TO AUTHORIZE ONLY MANDATORY SPENDING TO OPERATE GOVT! DO NOT authorize spending for foreign aid, NPR, PBS, Agriculture dept., Dept. of Education–go right up list of non-essential spending and end their funding NOW!!

  31. E.G. says:

I agree——Reps need to show some guts, passion, toughness, resolve and more; and not just be the same ole, same ole childish game-playing politicians that we’ve had in a vacuum in Wash. for YEARS. Haven’t seen any difference YET.

  32. Ronald D Thompson says:

Very, very disappointing! Unless my Republican congressman changes his thinking and votes against the bill next week I will begin to seek his replacement in 2012.

  33. rupert says:

Yes, got to look for Republicans that will cut spending and have the courage to do the tough stuff.
